Design, analysis and fabrication of a super lightweight chassis

To grasp & understand some of the most critical aspects of vehicle designing & manufacturing. The importance of Time, Discipline, Hard Work, Patience, Team Work and Successful Project Handling Skills was also realized and adopted. One thing that we sure wanted to do was to find a suitable transition metallic material such as Titanium that could have been used in place of Aluminum to further reduce weight as transition metallic elements have higher strength to weight ratios [5] than other metals but the manufacturing friendly / easy to work with abilities, cost effectiveness & easy availability of the material to be used forced us to use Aluminum. Therefore in my opinion future work in this particular area must be carried out on finding techniques / ways through which transition metallic elements can be made feasible / suitable for being utilized in chassis construction.

 Fuel Efficient Vehicle

In order to provide a better mileage, several innovative options have been considered, their feasibility calculated using mathematical models and their implementation carried out. Every detail has been theoretically calculated and practically executed to reach the best possible results. Generation of electricity by using speed breaker

Energy can be changed from one form to another form. Since the early age of man, he is trying to convert energy from one form to another desired form. Whatever happens in the nature, the result we obtained energy transformation. The blowing of wind, the formation of clouds and flow of water are some examples of that. The extensive use of energy has resulted in energy crisis. We need to develop novel methods of optimal utilization, by doing so we not only ease the crisis but also we will be able to preserve the environment. This is one of the emerging techniques to generate the electricity. In this mechanism a rack and sprocket pinion is used. The device converts the kinetic energy into electric energy by using movable speed breaker on the highways. When a car reaches on speed breaker, rack moves downward to generate rotary motion by sprocket pinion. The working principle is clearly explained.

Hexa Electric Motor

This Paper is based on the working of single motor, performing six operations at a time. This implementation is done by using permanent magnets neodymium N-35 instead of electromagnets. The basic theme of this project is to provide the driving force to the car through AC source, at the same time if we want to apply the brake we just have to use rectifier circuits to change the applied voltage (AC into DC). By detecting the obstacles in the range of the car, the rectifier circuit will be switched on and it will apply brake to avoid the collision. The motor also work as the dynamo-meter to generate voltages.

Development of Indigenous Onboard Diagnostic (OBD) Scanner for Euro Standard Compliant Land Rover Defender Jeep

In order to diagnose and eradicate the faults in Euro-standard compliant military vehicles, there is a need to procure specific diagnostic equipment for each of these vehicles on priority and train our technicians on the said equipment accordingly. A number of actions are in hand at various tiers for training of technicians of Corps of EME on the equipment so as to address the problems being faced by the field formations regarding maintenance / repair of these vehicles. The application of the project is for the diagnostics of Land Rover Defender Jeep used in Pakistan Army. Since the indigenously developed scanner is cost effective as compared to the Original Equipment Manufacturer scanner, so it can be provided to Army at lowest level of maintenance and repair echelons.

Ergonomic Design of a Quick and Secure Wheel Change Mechanism

Replacing the punctured or flat wheel with the spare one is the main problem when your car’s tire get punctured / bursts, especially when you are in a remote area and there is no service facility available nearby. It is a hectic and time consuming task, that’s why most people avoid doing it themselves. It gets more strenuous when it is to be performed by a female or old aged person. One has to come out of his car and search for the necessary tools. Lift the car with the jack manually; remove the broken wheel of the car with the spanner and then replace it with the spare one. An ergonomic approach has been followed by our team in our work, we have developed an improved mechanism of car wheel changing that will minimize all above mentioned problems. The central idea of our project is to get rid of nut bolt tightening method and to reduce the number of motions, human fatigue and time.

PAT-AV (RC model) Flying car prototype

Flying car prototype reflects the idea of utilizing the full capabilities of the modern technology for the mean of transportation and the use of a multi-purpose concept in now a days vehicles. Combining the capabilities of car, gyrocopter and motorcycle a developed prototype making which will surf like a car on ground giving the driving experience and which will be able to be transformed to a gyrocopter by the help of on board attachments and also can give a thrilling experience with its leaning concept like a motorcycle. Purpose of the project is to make the complete working prototype model and to add more features that are lacking in current state of the art of the flying car prototypes and to make it financially feasible for developing country like Pakistan and also to categorize it according to the different classes of people so that they can afford to buy it. With all these capabilities to make it a product that may rise the industrial innovation in the relative fields of avionics and automotive.

Industrial Robotic Arm Controlled by Leap Motion Prototype

Robot is an integral part in automating the flexible manufacturing system that one greatly in demand these days. Robots are now more than a machine, as robots have become the solution of the future as cost labor wages and customers’ demand. Even though the cost of acquiring robotic system is quite expensive but as today’s rapid development and a very high demand in quality with IS0 (International Standard Organization) standards, human are no longer capable of such demands. Research and development of future robots is moving at a very rapid pace due to the constantly improving and upgrading of the quality standards of products. Through Leap Motion controller one can easily pick up weight, do work in hazard areas. Leap Motion controller can easily detect the gesture of the hand make the robotic arm work according to the input given through leap motion. Robot and automation is employed in order to replace human to perform those tasks that are routine, dangerous, dull, and in a hazardous area. In a world of advanced technology today, automation greatly increases production capability, Improve product quality and lower production cost. It takes just a few people to program or monitor the computer and carry out routine maintenance with the hand gesture only.

Tungsten Electric Bike

We aim to develop a state of the art electric vehicle, that should be ultra-light weight, environment friendly, easily charged, runs at a very low cost and that should be easily maintained. Now having so many ideals together is a big challenge, especially when the finances are limited, yet we have come up with a “quick and dirty” prototype to proof the concept. Right after we have developed its electronics well enough, will shift this system into a four wheeled lightweight passenger carrying frame.

SPHEROID VTOL UAV

This project is a Spheroid Unmanned Aerial Vehicle that is capable of Vertical Take-off and Landing. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are aircrafts of various designs that are not piloted by an on board pilot. They may be autonomous, remote controlled, or fully manual. UAVs have application such as search and rescue, inspections, security, surveillance, science and research, aerial photography and video. The purpose of spheroid VTOL UAV is to allow it to be used in confined space such as an indoor environment where normal UAVs are susceptible to damage if it come in contact with the obstacles such as walls. It is operated by single motor and propeller combination and is designed to be able to hover like helicopters and tilt to move like an airplane. Spheroid VTOL UAV is power efficient. This is new, innovative, efficient, effective, light weighted and lower power consumption design.

KINECT Controlled UGV

An autonomous vehicle that could navigate on human gestures is made by us. Our project is important for the advancement of automotive industries. By using Kinect sensor, we can control a wide range of operations such as acceleration, braking, steering, media, volumes etc. just from our gestures. Some large companies, including Bloomingdale’s and Nissan, are collaborating with Microsoft to test out possible applications. Nissan has introduced a gesture-controlled system for dealerships that lets prospective buyers look inside a virtual version of a new car.  The implementation of electronics will elevate the performance as well as will make drive more fascinating.

 E-bike

The aim of this project was to design an electric bike that would be more economical, practical and, most importantly, more environmentally friendly than the common petrol-powered motorcycle. Work commenced on this self-project in 2014 and using nothing but a table-top drill, a lathe machine and ordinary tools, the project was near completion by November 2015. Due to our limited financial and material resources, we had to think outside the box. The strategy was to purchase a sturdy, strong downhill mountain bike frame and then modify it to suit our needs and requirements. There were many benefits to this strategy, but as mentioned later in the report, there were some drawbacks too.

Electric Commuter for NUST Camus (EV-CI)

The project is driven by the fact that a local production of electric vehicle is encouraged through 2 steps approach. In the first step build a vehicle by adopting a suitable motor and controller while rest is all done through local inputs. In the later stage (step 2) the motor and controller series to be developed locally. This will enable us to master the technologies involved and transform the manufacturing at industrial scale.

Design and Experimental Investigation of circulating Liquid Cooled Vest (Jacket)

Human body generates heat by different processes including metabolism and performance of any activity. This heat is then dissipated by actions like sweating. The extent of heat stress exposure depends on the environment, work demands, and clothing. Heat stress may also impair cognitive function, leading to poor decision-making and careless work practices. To provide comfort and ease to the body this heat must be removed. Personal cooling garments address this problem by providing a portable solution. There exist several technologies in the international market related to personal cooling, but they are less common in a country like Pakistan. Cooling garments are viable solution for military personals, traffic sergeants as well as office workers.

Our project aims at providing the handy and manageable solution at low cost and using easily available modules. The main objective in creating this prototype was to implement a thermoelectric cooling system. We believe that by introducing a newer technology, research and development in this field will increase and smarter solutions will result.

Motorcycle Ambulance

Motorcycle Ambulance is a type of emergency vehicle which either carries a solo paramedic or first responder to a patient; or is used with a trailer or sidecar for transporting patients. A motorcycle ambulance is able to respond to a medical emergency much faster than a car or van in heavy traffic, which can increase survival rates for patients suffering cardiac arrest etc.

Formula Students, SMME

Our project is practical representation of what students of Pakistan are capable of. It showcases the level of expertise the students possess and the training they undergo during their studies. Being part of an international competition our project forms the link between the international community and Pakistani community of students and is itself a representation of Pakistan. Meeting the economies of scale is a major aspect of project.

Development of rapid reconfigurable sheet metal multipoint forming die for sheet metal forming of car body parts

Investigation of reconfigurable discrete dies for sheet metal forming dates back to early 20th century. The reconfigurable nature of these discrete forming dies lends itself well to Flexible Manufacturing Systems. These reconfigurable dies have major advantages over solid forming dies, i.e. minimum setup time required, single die is capable of producing different components and cost of dies is saved etc. Application of sheet metal forming reconfigurable dies in automotive sector is of great importance. Sheet metal formed body parts of different models of cars can be produced on a single reconfigurable die. Our project primarily focuses on an improved rapid reconfiguration technique for densely packed pins. Moreover, the project also elaborates the concept of an improved design of forming interpolator.
